On December 21, 2007, the UAW Local 2999 Community Service Committee members Karen Foster, Debbie Clem and Tammy Woodward donated their time to help a struggling new homeless shelter the House of Hope in Front Royal, Virginia.

We helped the shelter's Executive Director Leslie Gardner sort out the piles of Christmas donations they received from the community and helped prepare gift bags for each of the residents. The Committee also donated needed bedding and office supplies to the shelter.

The Committee returned to the shelter after Christmas as they hosted a Show You Care Day. It was held in the downtown area, and was designed for the community to show support and knowledge of the homeless. UAW Local 2999 President Karen Foster presented the $200 check the Community Service Committee won from the Christmas Window contest in Strasburg to the House of Hope. This donated check from our Local help defray the cost of heating fuel for the shelter.

Since that time Karen Foster has remained involved on a daily basis with the House of Hope. She has helped it to become fully established in the town of Front Royal, Virginia.
